Market News
Although Longfield Country Market is really a selling Market providing fresh locally produced food for sale we are also part of the Community. People can come and buy refreshments and meet and talk to their friends. Local organisations can advertise their events by placing leaflets on our tables. Occasionally we run special events for the enjoyment of our customers or to raise money for charity.
Longfield Festivals
During the summer, Longfield and New Barn Parish Council organise the Longfield Festival for the enjoyment of local people. The Market has taken part in this festival every time it has been run, for roughly the last 5 years. The festival improves year on year.
Special Christmas Markets
Every Christmas we arrange for Father Christmas to visit the Market and give out presents to our customers. This is mainly for fun and to amuse our customers. Apart from selling an additional range of Christmas produce, which can be ordered; we also decorate the tables for the festive season.
On the last Friday before Christmas, a member of the Salvation Army comes to play carols to the customers.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
For the last four years we have taken part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning in September. Our customers and producers have been extremely generous in helping raise money for this charity and each year we have sent a substantial cheque to the cause.
30th Birthday Celebrations
In July 2008, the Market celebrated its 30th Birthday in style by inviting the Mayor and Mayoress of Dartford to officially open the Market. All customers were given a much appreciated free drink and slice of celebration cake. Past shareholders and customers from throughout the years were also invited. A lovely morning was had by all.
Ellenor Open Gardens Scheme
The Ellenor Lions Hospice is a local charity supporting both children and adults suffering from cancer in the local community. As part of their fundraising, they open local gardens. The owners of the gardens have very kindly let the Market run a stall selling mainly preserves and in return, the Market has given 15% of their sales to this worthwhile cause.
Community Safety
On most Friday mornings men dressed in Green uniforms are around the Market. These are the KCC Community Wardens. They operate in Longfield, Hartley and other local areas to help within the community. Customers can talk to any of the Wardens with their problems or concerns.
Another frequent visitor is the local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO).
