About Us - Our Market
Longfield Country Market is part of Country Markets, a network of over 450 small, local markets that take place all over England and Wales on different days of the week. Country Markets used to be known as WI Country Markets.
The Markets are run as a non-profit making co-operative. They provide the opportunity for small producers to sell their produce direct to the public.
Each Market is run locally by a Market Manager who is responsible for making sure that all producers obey the rules set out by Head Office. All cooks are required to have an up-to-date Food Hygiene Certificate. Every Country Market is different as the produce available depends on the Producers contributing to that individual Market.
Wide range of Fresh Produce
Fresh produce is supplied by local producers within a 5 to 10 mile radius of Longfield so in terms of food miles, our radius is extremely small. Small individual producers supplying the Market from their gardens are supported by local small businesses.
A wide range of fresh produce is available each week including seasonal fruit and vegetables and locally reared meat.
Home-baked Goods
A good selection of home-made cakes and pastries are produced by our cooks. Cakes for special occasions can be ordered. Cooks also produce a range of savouries such as sausage rolls and cottage pies.
In addition, freshly baked bread and buns are available, from the local bakery, The Granary based in New Ash Green.
Hand-crafted Selection
Our craft stall always displays a selection of hand-made crafts including a extensive range of cards for special occasions, knitted garments and wood turning.
The cakes on the cakes stall are supplemented by a range of hand-made chocolates, supplied by The Dairy Farm, Fairseat.
Refreshments
Competitively priced refreshments are available whilst the Market is open, served with a free biscuit:
- Tea (50p)
- Coffee (50p)
- Squash (30p)
